Guitar ZEN--Lesson 1=TUNING your instrument the 'easy' way

Johann, this is especially for you:

Tuning:
Find E on keyboard, tuner, or reference an old dial tone: listen to the phone before you dial in a number. That's an F (1/2 step above E). Of course, it's a multi-phonic, but the dominant 'pitch' is F. So, tune your E string (high or low)to an F. Then, bring it DOWN a half step to equal E.

Then, use the other strings to tune to yourself/guitar:

E string (1st and 6th strings); then, press the 5th fret on the E. That's an A. Tune the A string to (down or up) to equal A. You'll know if it's out, your ear gets trained to knowing whether it needs to be adjusted up or down in pitch.

A string (5th string); press the 5th fret on the A string. You'll be playing a D.

D string (4th string); press the 5th fret on the D string. You'll be playing a G.

...WOW!

Moving on, this is where it changes: Instead of the 5th fret, you should press on the 4th fret. You'll be playing a B (open B on the 5th string=B).

Then, on that B string, press the 5th fret. You'll be playing the E again, but this time it's much higher. You encompass 3 octaves in root position while tuning.

Any questions?
